Hello my lovely petals,
I hope that all is well on your end. Today, I come to you
with an update on a previously removed post.
Update: There was a person
who was unhappy with my review and requested that I remove it. After taking another look at the products,
I am re-posting.
And now, on to the review of...
Pura Do'r organic shampoo, conditioner, and argan oil.
I was very lucky to have received a wonderful package from Pura
D'or a couple months ago. The package included their Argan Oil Premium Organic
Shampoo Hair Loss Prevention Therapy, Argan Oil Premium Organic Conditioner
Lavender Vanilla, and a one ounce bottle of their pure organic Argan Oil.
The Pura D'or company, "for more than four years, has been
growing a culture planted on a natural set of values and beliefs." Their
motto is to "create organic personal care solutions that work
naturally."
My Story:
Let me start off by saying that I am always excited to try new lines of natural and organic hair care and skincare. In case you were wondering, my hair is more oily towards the top and dry towards the bottom and I have dry to combination skin. I have been searching for the right natural shampoo and conditioner for years and have still not found one that I truly liked and could stick with. I have tried Natures Gate, Alaffia, Avalon Organics, Andalou Naturals, Pura D'or and Calia Natural. Natures Gate left my hair waxy and oily and Alaffia left my hair extremely dry and waxy. Avalon Organics left a grease pool in my hair and Andalou Naturals was quite nice, left my hair smooth, but quickly became greasy the following day. I will disclose my opinion of Calia Natural in a separate review. Unfortunately, Pura D'or also left me hair quite greasy and waxy, similar to the Natures Gate shampoo and conditioner. Let me explain that I am fully aware that when switching to natural shampoos, your hair and scalp go through some sort of an adjustment period and that natural shampoos will not lather as much, due to the lack of chemicals. When testing these shampoos, I made sure to use them for at least a month to fully see their effect on my hair and scalp. Many standard non-natural shampoos, body washes and facial cleansers contain lathering agents such as potassium hydroxide, sodium benzoate, sodium lauryl sulfate and additional sulfates. These chemicals all allow the shampoo, face or body product to lather and it is now a common misconception in our society that a shampoo will only clean ones hair or body if it lathers. This is idea is completely false, as it is the chemical agent that causes the product to lather. Without it, your shampoo would still operate as a cleansing agent, but would not foam. All the shampoos I mentioned above had a mild foaming effect, some chemicals (but not as many as your standard herbal essences), but I did not base my review of any of the products on that particular property.
What Brand is this?:
The shampoo, conditioner and argan oil come from the brand Pura
D'or. This company is all natural and sells products for your hair, skin
and nails. All of their products are argan oil based and claim to help
ones skin retain moisture. The main focus of their company is too create
natural hair care products that strengthen and prevent fall out/hair loss.
How much does this cost and where can I purchase this?:
As far as I am aware, these products are only available from their
main website, https://www.purador.com. Some people are selling their
products on EBay and Amazon, but I would be aware of their authenticity.
Their Premium Organic Shampoo Hair Loss Prevention Therapy retails for
$37.00, their Argan Oil Premium Organic Conditioner Lavender Vanilla retails
for $28.00 and their argan oil retails for $24.99. Their website offers
discount codes and lowered prices on certain items, but overall their prices
stand as is.
What are the benefits of these products?:
Their shampoo claims to prevent hair loss and fall out, their
conditioner claims to moisturize your hair and their argan oil claims to assist
in hair, skin and nail health. Unfortunately, none of these products held
true to their claims. See pros and cons list further down the page. Just a side note: I used all three products for two
and a half months in order to be able to view their actual results and give my
full and honest opinion.
How do I use these products?:
1.) Like any standard shampoo, I wet my hair, pump three pumps of the shampoo into my hand and work it into a lather on my hair and scalp, from root to tip. After some intense rubbing and a scalp massage, I thoroughly rinse out all remnants of the shampoo.
2.) After rinsing out all the shampoo, I take about three to three and a half pumps of the conditioner and apply it all over my hair, focusing mainly on my ends. I then leave it in my hair for about three minutes or longer, while I wash my body (and shave if necessary). After I finish washing my body, I thoroughly wash out any remaining conditioner in order to prevent greasy residue buildup.
3.) When I exit the shower, I lightly towel dry my skin and then while my skin is still slightly damp, I rub the argan oil into my skin, focusing on my legs, elbows and knees. After using my Thayers Alcohol Free Rose Petal Witch Hazel Toner, I apply two drops of the argan oil into my hands, rub my hands together and then gently rub the oil all over my face and neck as a moisturizer.

Product Con's:
Shampoo:
-The pump of the bottle would always get stuck.
-It is very expensive, given the poor quality of the shampoo and
ingredients.
-The smell is unpleasant. Furthermore, the scent lingers in your
hair for at least a day after washing.
-After rinsing, my hair felt completely stripped and dry.
-It claims to prevent hair loss, but did the complete opposite.
I had much more hair fall out than any other shampoo I used in the past.
-The ingredient list is not as natural as they claim. Though
essential oils are used, many unnecessary chemical derivatives are incorporated
as well.
Conditioner:
-The pump of the bottle would always get stuck.
-It is very expensive, given the poor quality of the conditioner
and ingredients.
-The smell is unpleasant.
-This left my hair oily the day after washing.
-This did not leave my hair with a silky feeling. Instead,
it felt sticky and greasy.
-The ingredient list is not as natural as they claim. Though
essential oils are used, many unnecessary chemical derivatives are incorporated
as well.
Argan Oil:
-The dropper bottle was inconvenient and I was always scared that
I'd knock it over and spill it.
-It is very expensive, given the poor quality.
-I have used other natural brands of argan oil (including Acure,
Simplers Botanical and Aura Cacia) that have done wonders for my skin and hair.
This, however, did nothing.
-Left my skin and hair dry.
-Was not moisturizing.
-Did not have the nutty smell that many other pure argan oils
have.
-Seemed to be watered down with carrier oil, even though it claims
to be 100% argan oil.
Overall thoughts:
I give all three products 2 out of 5 petals. They did not
perform as they claimed and were too expensive for my taste/not in my budget.
Their products were packaged nicely, but I would not repurchase them.
It is possible that their products would work better on other hair and
skin types, but it did not work for me. I am very disappointed to say that I am
not happy with my experience with Pura D'or. I still greatly appreciate
that they sent me their products to try.
Stay tuned for my next post..."Calia Natural Hair care Review: Hydrating and Balancing Collection."
In the mean time, stay happy, healthy and active!
